I promised my dad a trip to see Alcatraz about 3 years ago and this year we finally made it happen! I still can't believe the flights were open for us to all go in July! There was 7 of us with all the kids and my parents. Papa Duck had to stay home and work, sadly. We stayed with Wendy and her cute family who took such good care of us! The first day we went to the lake and had a blast in the water. It was so fun to see Wendy again. One night, after the kids were in bed, we snuck out like teenagers and went to downtown Sacramento where we went to the most sinful chocolate shop! It was so delightful and we talked and talked until way past our bedtimes!
The day we went to San Francisco we left so super early and rode the bus there. It was a little disappointing that we couldn't go on the Alcatraz Island (you have to buy tickets at least 6 months in advance) but we took a ferry tour all around the prison and the Golden Gate bridge too. I don't know why I have no pictures of this though. Then we just kind of wandered around and had sundae's at Ghirardelli's. Later in the day we met Wendy and her kids and we walked along to pier and had clam chowder. Ruby even had her caricature drawn.
On the bus home!
We said goodbye to the Kissi Family and on the way home we spent a day in Long Beach. The kids had been dying to go to the beach so this was our chance.
A purple store for Ruby. It is, after all, her signature color!
Sonic had the crazy idea to bury himself in the sand. He had a heck of a time doing it but that was nothing compared to trying to get out of it. Even with all of us helping, we could NOT get him out! I was starting to wonder if we were going to have to leave him buried there. But with a little more help from my dad, he got pried out. In the meantime though, Nina was very distressed and did not like it at all! She cried and cried and tried to pull on his head to free him!
We had such a splendid day at the beach!
